Biden and Netanyahu discuss situation in Gaza

Washington April 04, 2024 (QJ) -President Joe Biden of the United States has described the deaths of civilian workers as a result of Israeli airstrikes and the overall humanitarian situation in Gaza as “unacceptable” during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, the White House said, after the leaders spoke briefly.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby said the two leaders did not discuss Israel’s investigation into the attacks in detail. Kirby said Netanyahu indicated “he will take steps to ensure such incidents are not repeated” once the investigation is completed.

Biden also “emphasized the importance of immediate de-escalation,” the readout said, and stressed that Netanyahu “has the power to bring about a ceasefire.” The leaders also discussed Iran’s provocations against Israel, with Biden reaffirming U.S. support for Israel when facing such provocations, according to the white house.
