Dialysis Program underway at Hargeisa General Hospital

Hargeisa (SDN) -Dr. Ahmed Weli Daahir the head of the kidney dialysis program at Hargeisa general hospital told SDN news that the program which launched this April needs public financial support in order to thrive. He urged business people and members of the Somali and Somaliland diaspora to support the program so that those suffering from kidney disease and kidney failure can receive much needed medical care.

According to the doctor, the kidney machines which are the first of their kind in the country are filling a much needed gap in care. Prior to the machines being setup at Hargeisa General only those that could afford to leave the country received treatment. Now up to 200 people have registered with the program from across the country and neighbouring regions.

The hemodialysis program is yet another example of the development gains in Somaliland. A mixture of public and private sector support has been the key to success for social development in the region. Dr. Ahmed Weli Daahir encourages those who can to support the livesaving program.
