Baydhabo (SDN) -Reports from the city of Baydhabo in the region of Bay say that an official with the NGO Islamic Relief was murdered last night in the city. Islamic Relief is known for its humanitarian work in Baydhabo.
The deceased Hassan Mad Guuroow (also known as Hassan Fanah) was killed by a heavily armed group of men who shot him as he exited a mosque in the centre of the city following praryers according to on-lookers.
Hassan served as Islamic Reliefs Liaison in Baydhabo; members of his family say they received word of his death but do not know who may have killed him.
Officers with the transitional federal government went to the scene of the murder where they began an investigation to determine who is behind the killing, although they did not manage to apprehend any suspects at the location.
The city of Baydhabo was under the control of Al-Shabaab for several years afterwhich the militant group was ousted by transitional federal government forces. No groups have accepted responsibility for the killing. Somalia’s security apparatus has yet to stem the tide of assassinations targeting government officials, humanitarians and journalists in the country.
