Mogadishu (SDN) -The peacekeeping arm of the transitional federal government of Somalia presented the case of three youth they say were once part of Al-Shabaab and had plans to become suicide bombers.
One of the youth was captured in the neighbourhood of Ex-Kontorol while the other two were arrested in the Waaberi neighbourhood of Mogadishu.
Colonel Khaliif Ahmed Ereg with the peacekeeping force shared the story of the young men with the press where he stated that recent counter-insurgency operations in the region have been successful in maintaining peace and order. He also said that their mandate is to prevent attacks and other violence instigated by Al-Shabaab before they occur.
One of the young suspects said that he spent the last seven years as a militant for Al-Shabaab and that he believed that members of the government were non-believers and as such could be killed or targeted in suicide bombings, although he now believes that government forces saved his life.
