Dhagahleey (SDN) Reports emerging from the Dhagahleey refugee camp in Northern Kenya say that Kenyan defence forcers were targeted in an attack that left several dead.
Witnesses say that the forces were targeted with an explosive device they believe was either a land mine or an improvised explosive device buried in the ground. Five Kenyan soldiers are dead and many more are injured, Kenyan defence forces did not immediately confirm the reports.
Following the explosion Kenyan soldiers began widespread operations to tighten security in the camp, placing a curfew and banning all movement among residents.
The situation in the camp has significantly quieted down since and the injured soldiers were transported to local hospitals. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Kenya’s army has been under attack from Al-Shabaab since they began their military campaign in Somalia, this latest attack may be retaliation for their involvement in the AMISOM mission.
