Journalism is a method of inquiry and literary style used in social and cultural representation. It serves the purpose of playing the role of public service machinery in the dissemination and analysis of news and information.[1] Journalistic integrity is based on the principles of truth, accuracy and factual knowledge. Journalistic mediums can vary diversely, from print publishing to electronic broadcasting and from newspaper to television channels, as well as to the web, and to digital technology.

In modern society, the news media is the chief purveyor of information and opinion about public affairs. Journalism, however, is not always confined to the news media or to news itself, as journalistic communication may find its way into broader forms of expression, including literature and cinema. In some nations, the news media is still controlled by government intervention, and is not fully an independent body.

In a democratic society, however, access to free information plays a central role in creating a system of checks and balance, and in distributing power equally between governments, businesses, individuals, and other social entities. Access to verifiable information gathered by independent media sources, which adhere to journalistic standards, can also be of service to ordinary citizens, by empowering them with the tools they need in order to participate in the political process.

Journalism ethics and standards comprise principles of ethics and of good practice as applicable to the specific challenges faced by journalist. Historically and currently, this subset of media ethics is widely known to journalists as their professional code of ethics” or the “canons of journalism. The basic codes and canons commonly appear in statements drafted by both professional journalism associations and individual print, broadcast and news organizations.

While various existing codes have some differences, most share common elements including the principles of truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and public accountability—as these apply to the acquisition of newsworthy information and its subsequent dissemination to the public. Like many broader ethical systems, journalism ethics include the principle of “limitation of harm. The principles of Journalistic codes of ethics are designed as guides through numerous difficulties, such as conflict of interest, to assist journalists in dealing with ethical dilemmas. The codes and canons provide journalists a framework for self-monitoring and self-correction. While journalists in the many countries have led in formulation and adoption of these standards, such codes can be found in news reporting organizations in most countries with freedom of press. The written codes and practical standards vary somewhat from country to country and organization to organization, but there is a substantial overlap among mainstream publications and societies.

Among the leading news organizations that voluntarily adopt and attempt to uphold the common standards of journalism ethics described herein, adherence and general quality varies considerably. The professionalism, reliability and public accountability of a news organization are three of its most valuable assets. An organization earns and maintains a strong reputation, in part, through a consistent implementation of ethical standards, which influence its position with the public and within the industry

Truth is most often used to mean in accord with fact or reality, or fidelity to an original or to a standard or ideal. The commonly understood opposite of truth is falsehood, which, correspondingly, can also take on a logical, factual, or ethical meaning.

Morality is manner, character, proper behavior is the differentiation of intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are “good” (or right) and those that are “bad” (or wrong) Ethics, which is also known as moral philosophy is that branch of philosophy which addresses questions about morality. The word ‘ethics’ is “commonly used interchangeably with ‘morality’ … and sometimes it is used more narrowly to mean the moral principles of a particular tradition, group, or individual. Likewise, certain types of ethical theories, especially deontological ethics, sometimes distinguish between ‘ethics’ and ‘morals’: “Although the morality of people and their ethics amounts to the same thing, there is a usage that restricts morality to systems  based on notions such as duty, obligation, and principles of conduct.Zooming up, Haatuf newspaper categorized the sole newspaper in Somali-land, which focuses a narrow vision based on tribal principles, which is against the common interest of this country.
