NEC To Postpone VR in Somaliland over Drought

The VR postponement comes after president Ahmed Silanyo has made an emergency gathering which saw the attendance of House of parliament, National Election, Commission, National Political parties.

Mr. Silanyo has called on postonining the VR and urged all should unite for being part of the drought relief efforts in the nationwide.

Wadani which is new to Somaliland politics has thought that the postponement as an excuse to delay the forthcoming elections.

National Election Commission (NEC) has submitted a new proposal to the 3 national political parties and calls for the postponement of the voter registration exercise that is taking place in Somaliland.

NEC blames for the drought that hit most regions in Somaliland and said that it is absurd to continue the enlisting while the country is seeking humanitarian assistance to drought affected people.

Justice and Welfare party (UCID) and ruling Kulmiye party have accepted the postponement.

Wadani party has refused to consent with NEC over its plans to postpone the VR exercise in Somaliland.

NEC calls on massive relief efforts to aid and assistance thousands of drought stricken families in Somaliland.
