Garoowe (SDN)-The President of the regional administration of Puntland Mr. Abdirahman Mahamed Faroole has released a statement withdrawing support for Somalia’s controversial constitution that is currently being ratified by the transitional federal government.
President Faroole addressed his statement to the UN, IGAD and other organizations involved in the constitution process where he took the opportunity to say the constitution does not address the needs of Puntland and lacks regional relevance.
According to Faroole the constitution does not clearly outline the ownership of national resources and what he described as distinct wealth. He also went on to say that the constitution does not address how power will be shared by officials in the interim government.
The President made these statements despite recent political wrangling on the part of the TFG and the international community including the AU, AMISOM and others that have stated they will take severe action against those who oppose their peace plan, namely the Roadmap of which the ratification of the constitution is a major deliverable.
