Puntland wants Indian Navy to handover captured Pirates

Garowe March 17, 2024(QJ) -The Puntland Regional Administration has requested the extradition of individuals involved in the hijacking of the ship MV Ruen arrested by the Indian Navy personnel so they can face trial in Puntland.

Puntland’s Minister of Ports, Ahmed Yasin Salah, stated that they will be engaged with the Indian government in discussions on how to handle the extradition of the captured pirates.

These 35 men were captured by the Indian forces during operations to free MV Ruen, which pirates have held hostage since December 2023.

The Indian navy commandos forcibly boarded the cargo ship to free the vessel and its crew, causing no harm.

Additionally, a cargo ship from Bangladesh, MV Abdullah, was also hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean earlier in the week, along with 23 crew members.
