UCID Statements on the Somaliland parliament dispute

UCID party is concerned about the on-going dispute between the chairman of the House of the Representatives and the president of the Republic of Somaliland, while the nation is just about seven months away from the forthcoming presidential election.

UCID strongly condemns the government’s action of closing the House of the Representative, harassing and arresting the members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Somaliland.

UCID party strongly regrets the act of polarizing Somalilanders along clan lines and, therefore, calls upon the head of the Executive branch of the Republic Somaliland to restrain from any acts that can take the country back to dark era of clan politics.

UCID Party calls upon the executive branch of the Republic of Somaliland, headed by the president of the Republic of Somaliland, to respect and upheld article 32(1), (2) and (3) of the constitution of the Republic of Somaliland and, therefore, release the arrested members of the House of Representative and the public.

UCID party sends condolence to the Somalilanders, wherever they are, and, particularly, the families of those slain civilians in Buro, while they were participating a protest in which they were just expressing their views about the dispute between the said parties within the House of Representatives. Live bullets should not be used against unarmed civilians.

UCID party reiterates again its position of ensuring the respect of freedom of speech, right to demonstrate and human rights in Somaliland as enshrined in articles 21(2) and 32(1), (2) and (3) of the constitution of the Republic of Somaliland; and, therefore, calls upon the EU and the UK to privately and publicly remind the incumbent president of the Republic Somaliland the consequence of his deplorable action towards human rights in Somaliland.

UCID party encourages the people of Somaliland to protect their country and hard earned democracy from all those who are threatening it.
