Somalia: Defense minister to sweep Al Shabab remnants from the country

Mogadishu, Oct 21, 2013 (SDN) -The defense minister of Somalia Government Abdihakim Mohamud Fiqi has vowed on Sunday that the security forces will clear Al Shabab remnants from the countrywide. The defense minister reached the town of Beledweyn a day after a suicide bomber killed at least 20 people in a teashop in the centre of the town on Saturday.

β€œWe have set up our military forces to sweep the remnants of the terrorists from the republic of Somalia.” the minister said while briefing the media in Beledweyn.

Mr Fiqi said the Federal Government of Somalia equipped its army to launch immense assault against the region on the south and central Somalia under the control of Al Shabab.

β€œThe ministry of defense is responibl to secure the whole coubntry from the fear of terrorism.” the minister added.

The minister called for the public to support the military operation in which he said will bring peace and stability to the Somali people.

Somali government now controls the town of Beledweyn, the regional province of Hiiraan while the other four districts of the region remain under the control of Al Shabab.
