Hargeisa, 10 Feb 2014 (SDN) –Tempers flared in Somaliland’s lower House of parliament for the second day running as rival parliamentarians tabled opposing motions.

The political in-fight in the House of Representatives started on Saturday after MPs loyal to Speaker Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro tabled a motion to fire the two Deputy Speakers Bashe Mohamed and Ali Yusuf, both from the ruling Kulmiye Party.  Another motion against the Speaker was then tabled by the Members of the House supporting the two Deputy Speakers loyal to President Ahmed Silanyo.

Saturday’s session was closed after members from the House of Elders intervened to cease the hot political temperature.

Today’s session was intervened by the police after as rival MPs threw punches. The in-fight led to the sudden closure of today’s session by the Speaker.

Speaker Abdurahman Irro who spoke to media later today has alleged that the in-fight was created by President Silanyo and his cabinet whom he said they were directly involving in the parliamentary issues.

Mr Irro noted that today’s parliament was now a victim for the cabinet interfering the parliament’s bylaws in which he is the sole person who has the right to manage.

Bashe Mohamed, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has turned the blames on the Speaker Irro for closing today’s meeting.
