My Brother’s Keeper: Yemen Struggles to Host Somali Refugees

San’aa (SDN) -The government of Yemen has stated that the number of Somali refugees coming to that country is steadily increasing. Upwards of 2 million Somali refugees currently live in the Yemen.

Officials in Yemen’s Interior Ministry say up to 150-200 refugees arrive daily. According to the government, the cost of hosting one refugee is 500,000 riyals which is equivalent to 2300 USD amd does not including daily living expenses.

Refugees from Somalia continue to travel to Yemen in the hopes of finding a better life although they do not fare much better in the poor living conditions of refugee camps.

Yemen much like Somalia is struggling with political instability, high rates of child malnutrion and a weakend economy.
