Hobyo (SDN) Residents of Hobyo in Somalia’s Mudug region are fed up of the air campaign that has disrupted their livelihoods and sense of security.
Residents told our website that they fear for their lives. As a precaution they leave their homes whenever they hear the engines of the planes approaching and stand outside so that they will not be mistaken as fighters, they also evacuate as a safety measure to increase their chances of surviving an attack on their homes.
“We are consumed by fear and worry in Hobyo, sometimes the planes come in threes, sometimes in twos and in multiple other formations, they bombard the city, its dangerous” said one of the men who lives there.
Residents say the planes are stationed on warships off the coast of Somalia. They also understand the mission of international forces that target pirates but fear the collateral damage that inevitably results from these missions in Hobyo.
A dutch fighter jet recently crashed on the beaches of Somalia during a mission targeting a pirate stronghold in the region.
