Somalia: The New Puntland President, Dr. Abdiweli Gaas Takes Office

Garowe, 14 January 2014 (SDN) –The newly elected president of Puntland State, Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has officially taken office after his predecessor, Dr. Abdirahman Farole handed over the post to him in a ceremony held in Garowe city of Nugal province today on Tuesday.

In a very colorful occasion over the handing over responsibility of presidency of Puntland State by former president, Abdirahman Farole and the current elect president of Puntland, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas occurred at the parliamentary building in the administrative capital, Garowe today.

Former president, Farole said, “ I am very happy to hand over the office to Dr. Abdiweli Gaas, wish him to go ahead the ongoing development projects and programs of Puntland State, I am ready to work with the president and I request people to support the new leader”.

Farole said, “ I am handing you a list that includes number of national army, incomplete projects which are implementation such the construction of Bosaso and Garowe airports, Makhir University and road links Garowe city to Galka’o city of Mudug region”.

Abdiweli Gaas, the elected president expressed his pleasure over taking office from his predecessor, Farole today on Tuesday thanking him for the best job he did during his term in office.

The inauguration ceremony of both presidents were also invited to some members of the new lawmakers of Puntland State parliament, scholars, elders and representatives from international community according to officials.

President Gaas vowed to build his government members as soon as possible after he makes deep consultation with his people in the region as he announced yesterday at similar occasion in which former parliament speaker handing over the office to the new one in Garowe.
