Fifth Round of Somaliland and Somalia Talks Get Underway in Istanbul-(Video)

Istanbul, 17 Jan 2014 (SDN) –The fifth round of the negotiations between Somaliland and Somalia’s federal government has begun on Thursday in Istanbul, Turkey. Somaliland’s Foreign Minister who was leading Somaliland negotiations team has said that that they will not compromise Somaliland’s independence.

In an interview with BBC Somali programme, Foreign Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis once again reiterate his Government position on the ongoing talks.

“Somaliland’s independence is not negotiable, but we will have fruitful discussion with our brothers in Somalia”. Mr. Bihi said while speaking to the BBC Somali service.

The foreign minister also shed light on that the agreements reached in the previous round of talks were not fully implemented.

Meanwhile, Somalia’s Interior and National Security Minister Abdikarim Hussien Guled told the media that the both sides will discuss issues including the unity of the country.

He said that a committee from both sides prepared the agenda of the meeting, which will last until Friday (Today).

“[on the agenda] We concentrated on seeking United Somalia and discuss what happened in the past”. The Minister said.
