Djibouti Police round-up 3,00 Illegals

Djibouti May 02, 2023 (QJ) – The government of Djibouti has intensified its efforts to combat illegal immigration, as the government-owned television has reported that the police have arrested 3,000 people who were in that country illegally.

The Minister of the Interior, Noureddine Hassan, said that the country in the Horn of Africa has seen an influx of people from neighboring countries, as 220,000 people have been “illegally” entered in 2022. Djibouti, with a population of just over one million, is facing massive illegal immigrants, who are fleeing life-threatening conflict and climate change.

Minister Noureddine spoke on television, saying that Djibouti has decided to take measures to “protect the security and stability of its people” and to address the issue of illegal immigrants in the country.

The government’s RTD television reported that around 3,000 people were arrested during the crackdown and would be housed in refugee camps until their return to their country. He said that the illegal immigrants who are working in the formal sector will be registered and given documents.
