The Gaza administration has updated the death toll from the Israeli conflict in the area to 61,709, adding thousands of missing individuals now presumed dead.
The head of the Gaza Government Information Office stated during a press conference that 76% of the Palestinian bodies have been recovered and taken to medical centers. However, at least 14,222 people are still believed to be trapped under rubble or in inaccessible areas for rescuers.
Speaking at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Salama Maaruf told reporters that the casualties include 17,881 children, among them 214 infants.
“Over 2 million people have been forcibly displaced, many more than 25 times, living in extreme conditions without basic services,” the official added, noting that 111,588 individuals have also been injured.
