Jubaland Military courts sentences soldiers who defected to AS

Kismaayo March 16, 2024 (QJ) -Today, the Jubbaland Military Court has convicted soldiers belonging to the Jubbaland State government forces, accusing them of defecting to Al-Shabaab with a military vehicle and weapons that belonged to Jubbaland.

Among the accused are Abdifatah Nur Abdullahi and Hassan Abdullahi Mohamed, who have been charged by the Jubbaland Military Court with allegedly aiding Al-Shabaab by providing them with a vehicle and supplies obtained from the Jubbaland Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, as well as an AK47 rifle.

Additionally, two other defendants, both members of the Jubbaland State forces, were accused of deserting and joining Al-Shabaab.

The Prosecutor of the Jubbaland Armed Forces, Ismail Abdi Ali read out the charges against the defendants in court today.

Finally, the Chairman of the Jubbaland Military Court, Abdullahi Mahmud Ibrahim, announced that the three defendants were sentenced to ten years in military prison each, and ordered their assets be confiscated.
