President Deni accuses feds for not protecting civilians in Las Anod

Garoowe April 29, 2023 (QJ) – The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has criticized the Federal Government of Somalia for not taking action to protect the Somali people in the conflict-ridden city of Laascaanood, where Somaliland forces have been carrying out military operations for the past four months.

Speaking at a meeting in Garowe, President Deni accused the Federal Government of being inactive and failing to stand with the people of Laascaanood, who are under attack.

He also mentioned the appointment of the new Special Envoy of the Federal Government to Somaliland, Abdikarim Hussein Guled, by President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud of the Federal Government, calling it an attempt to appease Somaliland at the expense of the people of Sool.

President Deni’s remarks come at a time when Somaliland forces have escalated their attacks on the people of Laascaanood, causing immense suffering to the civilian population. Somaliland has been accused of shelling civilian areas in Laascaanood, causing displacement of the local population.
