Puntland leadership to face parliament over Las Anod violence

Garowe Feb 20, 2023 (QJ) – The Speaker of the Parliament of the State of Puntland, Mr. Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril, chaired the 2nd meeting of the Standing Committee today, which was held at the Parliament.

During the meeting, the Members discussed various issues including the situation in the city of Laascaanood and the upcoming Puntland election.

After a lengthy discussion, the Committee agreed to call on the relevant departments responsible for the welfare of the people affected by Somaliland’s aggression towards Las Anod, the President and Vice President of Puntland brief the standing Committee on the government’s plan to address the situation in Sool region.

The standing committee also requested that the Electoral Committee responsible for organizing the Puntland elections brief the house on the progress of voter registration and the overall preparations for the upcoming elections.

Finally, the Committee agreed to continue their sessions until these steps are followed through.
