Somalia: Al Shabab kills a senior SNA Commander

Mogadishu March 23, 2024 (QJ)-A fierce battle erupted between government forces and Al-Shabaab militants in the Busley Dhannane and Jilib Marko areas of Lower Shabelle region.

Al-Shabaab militants reportedly launched attacks on military bases established in the areas, which were recently liberated from Al-Shabaab control.

Lieutenant Liban Golcad, a commander in the Somali National Army, was among the officials and soldiers killed in the clash between government forces and Al-Shabaab militants in the Busley area of Lower Shabelle region.

Liibaan Golcad was among the commanders leading recent military operations against Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region.

He was a key figure in the 22nd Division of the Gungaar forces, tasked with maintaining security in the capital city of Mogadishu, serving as the division’s operations commander.

The operation he led resulted in the expulsion of Al-Shabaab from many coastal areas in Lower Shabelle region, where it is reported that Al-Shabaab had been planning attacks targeting Mogadishu.
