State government officials denied entry to Garbaharey

Garbaharey June 14, 2023 (QJ) – A plane carrying the recently appointed governor of Gedo by the president of Jubaland was denied permission to land by the opposition in Garbaharey.

The delegation had attempted to land at Garbaharey Airport multiple times but was prevented from doing so, resulting in their return to Mogadishu, where they had departed from.

The local authorities in the region have cited various reasons for the denial of entry and the closure of Garbaharey Airport to incoming flights.

The newly appointed Deputy governor of Gedo’s security and political affairs, Cisman Nuur Haaji, widely known as Moalimuu, who is currently present in Garbaharey, cited technical issues which led to the flight being redirected back to Mogadishu.

Furthermore, Aadan Siraad Mahamoud, the Deputy Commissioner of Garbaharey, who is opposed to appointees Kismayo, stated that they were not consulted and were surprised by the arrival of the flight in Garbaharey. He emphasized that they will not allow them entry to the city.
