Hargeisa, 17 Jan 2014 (SDN) –“The national Debate on Democracy and Development jointly organized by the Academy for Peace and Development and SONSAF will be held on February 10,2014. Participants in the debate will be the 3 political parties and civil society organizations with the aim of enhancing democratization and development is Somaliland.” This was said by the Executive Director of the Academy Mr. Mohamed Farah Hagi.
According to a statement released by the Academy for Peace and development issues stakeholders will debate include will be:
1- Elections:
- Holding presidential and parliamentary elections in 2015, elections laws, women and minorities’ participation in politics, voter registration, evaluation of 2012 election and the House of Elders.
2- On international relations and the case of Somaliland Recognition
- Obstacles against recognition of Somaliland
- Somaliland /Somalia Dialogue
3- Development
- Economic and social developments
- Investment
- Natural resources
- Job creation
4- Loopholes in National Constitution
- A study on the constitution
The debate is being held after the opposition parties and prominent individuals planned to hold a national conference which the government opposed and a consensus was reached that the Academy for Peace and Development to hold the debate.
