Dahabshiil also was a target of a bomb blast in the biggest market in Mogadisho the Bakara Market recently.
A Somali Website associated with the militants posted that the Ban on Dahabshiil was related to the Company’s business practices.
As of Yesterday nine of Dahabshil’s centers in Hiran Region re-opened and are operating.
Somalia’s largest Remittance Company did not release any information about the Ban and the subsequent re-opining of their offices in Hiran.
Remittance was a life line in Somalia the last two decades in the absence of a functioning central Bank ,and Dahabshiil was a pioneer.
However the last few years Telecom Companies in the Horn have taken away a large chunks of the Hawala market, specially the lucrative Domestic markets With the invention of the Zaad a cellphone based Money Transfer system.
Al Shabab still controls large parts of south and Central regions of Somalia despite a huge bush back from the African peace keeping force.
