Hargeisa, 21 Jan 2014 (SDN) –Somaliland’s main opposition Justice and Welfare Party-UCID has criticized the recently signed agreement between Somaliland government and Mogadishu-based Federal Government of Somalia in Istanbul, Turkey.
Speaking at press conference in Hargeisa today, the Chairmain of the opposition Justice and Welfare Party-UCID, Eng. Faisal Ali Warabe said that the Turkish-mediated talks between Somaliland and Federal Government of Somalia brought no success for Somaliland but hindered its intention to secede from Somalia’s territorial integrity.
“The agreement did not recognize the genocide against the people in Somaliland while instead the agreement termed as “atrocity” which is killing against unarmed people and that was not the case of Somaliland” Eng. Faisal Said during the press conference.
Mr Warabe condemned the talks as it was conducted only by small groups from Somaliland and Somalila and labelled that every fruit from the talks will be seen as one-group domination.
Asked about his involvement in the previous rounds of these talks, Mr Warabe said that the previous sessions of the talks brought some tangible improvements for Somaliland to engage as two states talks but that was not what the third round of the talks in Istanbul recognized.
“Now Somaliland is approaching as a federal state under the Mogadishu-based Federal Government instead of becoming an independent nation.” he added,
Finally, Eng. Faisal called for national consultations to decide for the future of the region.
